Installing your LivGrid wall 

  • Each planting pod weighs approximately 1.1 kg when planted and fully watered.
  • Use this to calculate the approximate planted weight of your LivGrid wall and make sure the mounting surface and fixings are suitable for the load.

What you'll need

  • Tape measure
  • Electric drill/driver and multi-purpose drill bit
  • Tanalised wooden battens (e.g. 2" × 1") plus saw for cutting them to length and spirit level
  • Wall plugs (required for masonry mounting only)
  • Suitable screws for mounting the battens (e.g. 5.0 × 50mm stainless steel) and the LivGrid frame (e.g. 4.0 × 20mm stainless steel)
  • Pipe cutter for shortening irrigation pipe if required (optional)

Installation

Follow each step in order. Take your time when levelling and installing the irrigation system.

Assemble the LivGrid frame 

  • Click the LivGrid frame sections together to create your chosen wall size and orientation.
  • Simply push each section firmly into place until you hear it click.

Measure and cut your battens

  • Measure the finished height of your LivGrid frame and cut your wooden battens to match.

Position the battens 

  • Position the battens vertically against the wall to align with the LivGrid frame. We recommend a batten either side of each triple unit. 
  • Make sure the battens are vertical and correctly positioned before drilling.

  • Drill pilot holes through the battens.
  • For a brick wall, drill the corresponding holes into the masonry and insert suitable wall plugs.
  • Secure the battens firmly using fixings appropriate for your wall construction and the expected load.

Attach the LivGrid frame

Position the assembled LivGrid frame against the battens and screw it securely into place, fixing directly through the plastic frame into the battens.

Fit the irrigation

  • Run the irrigation pipe across the LivGrid system, positioning one dripper above each reservoir.
  • Trim the irrigation pipe to the required length using a pipe cutter if necessary.
  • Connect the irrigation pipe to your chosen water supply.

Connect the drainage

  • Connect the drain cups using the transparent drainage pipe, then click the drainage assembly into position. 
  • Seal one end of the drainage pipe and connect the grey drainage hose to the other. 
  • Route the hose to your chosen drainage point.
Test the system

Test the system 

  • Turn on the water supply and check that every dripper is operating correctly.
  • Check the irrigation and drainage system and make any necessary adjustments before adding your planting pods.
